Barthélémy Ngatsono has been appointed head coach of Congo’s local national team ahead of the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN). He returns to the helm of the local Red Devils with a new technical staff, tasked with preparing the squad for the tournament and pushing to go beyond the group stage.

Just days after being reinstated among the nations qualified for CHAN 2024, Congo is rolling up its sleeves to get ready for the competition. In this spirit, the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) has confirmed the return of Barthélémy Ngatsono, who has previously managed Congo, as head coach of the A’ team. The 68-year-old, most recently at the helm of Daring Club Motema Pembe, is back in charge of the local Red Devils, where he will be assisted by deputy coach Cédric Nanitelamio.

This complete overhaul is aimed at restoring tactical discipline and injecting fresh energy ahead of the CHAN kick-off, scheduled from August 2 to 30 across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Congo has been drawn in Group D and will need to put up a strong fight against reigning champions Senegal, as well as Nigeria and Sudan, to advance past the group stage and move closer to their ultimate goal.
