Victor Osimhen : Rio Ferdinand évoque un intérêt de Manchester United

🚨🗣️| Rio Ferdinand reveals a conversation with Victor Osimhen about a potential move to Manchester United in January: “I’ll tell you something about Victor. I don’t think people understand just how much a striker like him could change Manchester United. And with Sesko injured, if I’m involved in recruitment at that club, I’m making enquiries immediately. I remember having a conversation with Victor about United. I said, ‘Victor, if Manchester United come calling, you have to listen.’ He told me, ‘Rio, you know I respect Galatasaray. They’ve shown me love. I can’t start talking about leaving a club that’s treated me so well.’ I said, ‘Nobody is asking you to disrespect Galatasaray. I’m asking you a different question. If Manchester United wanted you, would you turn them down?’ He laughed and said, ‘Rio, that’s a different question. I can’t as long Gala approves.’ I told him, ‘Exactly. That’s why I’m asking.’ And I respected his response because that’s how a professional should behave. He’s happy where he is. He’s got a responsibility to his club and their supporters. But that doesn’t mean Manchester United shouldn’t be asking questions. I was discussing United’s attack with somebody recently. He said, ‘Rio, we need a striker who can guarantee goals.’ I asked, ‘Who are you thinking?’ He started mentioning young players. I said, ‘No, you’re telling me who might become that striker. I’m asking who can walk into Old Trafford tomorrow and make defenders uncomfortable.’ He said, ‘Osimhen.’ I told him, ‘Then why are we having a conversation about everybody except him?’ Look at Victor. His movement, aggression, the way he attacks crosses. He’s the kind of striker who makes defenders work even when he’s not scoring. And imagine Kobbie, Bruno playing behind him. Bruno looks up, Victor is already making the run. He doesn’t have to wait for somebody to decide whether they fancy attacking the penalty area. That’s what United have been missing. And I remember telling Victor something about Old Trafford. I said, ‘You know what the supporters love there? A striker who makes defenders feel like they’re in a fight.’ He laughed and said, ‘Rio, you know I don’t like giving defenders an easy game.’ I told him, ‘That’s exactly why I think you’d love playing there.’ But here’s where United have to show some ambition. I can already imagine the conversation in the boardroom. ‘We like Osimhen.’ ‘How much will Galatasaray want?’ ‘A lot.’ ‘Then perhaps we should look at somebody cheaper.’ And six months later, everybody’s asking why the team still can’t score enough goals. At some point, you have to stop doing that. Someone will say, ‘Rio, what happens when Sesko comes back?’ I’ll ask, ‘What happens when you have 2 quality strikers?’ ‘Well, one might have to sit on the bench. And I’ll say, ‘Good. Since when did United become frightened of competition?’ I played at United when you could look at the bench and see players capable of deciding matches. Nobody was complaining that we had too many good footballers. Now we’re discussing whether having another proper number 9 would be a problem. Come on. And listen, I’m not saying Victor has agreed to anything. I’m not saying Galatasaray want to sell him. But if United are serious, they should find out what’s possible. I remember telling him, ‘Victor, whatever you decide in your career, make sure you’re somewhere that matches your ambition.’ He said, ‘Rio, that’s always been important to me.’ I told him, ‘Good. Because you should be playing for a club that wants to compete for the biggest trophies.’ And that’s the question I’d ask United. Are you still that club? Because if you are, and a striker like Vicky becomes available, you don’t spend the entire transfer window explaining why he’s expensive. You find out what it takes to bring him to Old Trafford. The player has ambition. The supporters have ambition.
