Breaking: Mamelodi Sundowns snap up Monnapule Saleng

Mamelodi Sundowns have pulled off a stunning coup by signing Monnapule Saleng from Betway Premiership rivals Orlando Pirates.

The 27-year-old winger spent the first half of the season on loan at newly promoted Orbit College, making a solid impression.

Saleng’s move comes after he was sidelined from the Bucs squad last season, with his last run-out for Pirates coming back in December 2024 during their CAF Champions League clash against Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly.

There were rumours of a fallout between Saleng and the Pirates top brass over contract terms, but his agent Karabo Mathang Tshabuse has firmly dismissed those reports.

Having joined the Soweto giants in the 2021/22 season from the now-defunct Free State Stars, Saleng netted 25 goals and provided 17 assists in 70 appearances across all competitions for the Buccaneers.

He also bagged five trophies with the Sea Robbers, lifting three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup crowns.

During his short stint at Orbit, Saleng chipped in with two goals and three assists in 12 outings across all competitions this season.

All eyes will be on the left-footed attacker to see how he rises to the challenge with reigning champions Sundowns.
