An incredible comeback at Tripoli’s June 11 Stadium. After trailing 2-0 at home, Libya snatched a 2-2 draw against Botswana in the closing minutes of the first round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Botswana had done the hard part

The Zebras made a perfect start to their campaign away from home. At the end of the first half, Thabiso Orinonyane scored twice in the 39th and 42nd minutes, following two assists from Tatayaone Kgamanyane. Two clinical goals stunned the Libyan crowd just before the break.

Libya’s crazy comeback

After a long spell without finding solutions, the hosts sprang to life in a thrilling finale. Marwan Al-Habashi pulled one back in the 87th minute, then, in the 90+6th minute, Ezzeddine equalised to earn Libya a miraculous point. With the rest of Group H still to come, this draw leaves the group completely open. In the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Libya will play away against Uganda, while Botswana will host Tunisia in a high-profile clash.
