Mozambique got the job done. At Estádio Nacional do Zimpeto, the “Warriors” thrashed Sudan 4-1 to move top of Group J in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, after an evening in which they dominated from start to finish.

The tempo of the match was set early on. Witenis Chimuio Joao Quimpo, known as Guima, opened the scoring in the 24th minute before Chamito Loborino Alfandega took over. The forward scored twice, in the 46th and 58th minutes, while Ricardo Martins Guimaraes added a goal in the 58th minute.

On the other side, Yassine Hamed salvaged some pride by reducing the deficit in the 88th minute from the penalty spot for South Sudan

The Mambas go top as Sudan slip back

After a 1-1 draw against Senegal in the opening round, Mozambique began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign in the best possible fashion. With 4 points and a +3 goal difference, the Mambas top Group J.

As for Sudan, they sit third in the standings after a positive start with a 1-0 win over Ethiopia, but suffered a heavy defeat in Maputo.
