2028 Olympic Qualifiers (W): Malawi take lead against Zimbabwe

After a historic AFCON, Malawi have made a strong start to the qualifiers for the women's football tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The Malawian team took a slight advantage in the qualifying race by beating Zimbabwe 2-0 at home in the first leg of the second round.

The Chawinga sisters lead Malawi

Temwa Chawinga opened the scoring for Malawi in the 33rd minute at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. Her sister Tabitha Chawinga doubled the lead in the second half in the 50th minute. The two forwards secured victory for Malawi in this first leg.

Malawi continue their Olympic dream

Malawi made history at the last Women's Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026. The Scorchers reached the final on their first appearance. They are continuing their good momentum as they await the Women's World Cup. The Scorchers are pursuing another dream: qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The second leg is scheduled for October 13 at 1 p.m. at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
