Perfect start for Pitso Mosimane. South Africa thrashed Eritrea 5-0 this Tuesday at Cairo’s Al Salam Stadium and strengthened their position at the top of Group D in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mofokeng’s brace sets the tone

Relebohile Mofokeng led the way. The Union Saint-Gilloise forward opened the scoring in the 19th minute after being set up by Oswin Appollis, before striking again just before the break in the 45th+1 minute following a pass from Samukelo Kabini. 2-0 at half-time.

Appollis completes assist hat-trick

After the break, Bafana Bafana did not ease off the pressure. Sphephelo Sithole extended the lead in the 52nd minute by capitalising on a ball parried by the goalkeeper, then Iqraam Rayners made it 4-0 in the 63rd minute from another assist by Oswin Appollis.

The scoring was wrapped up in the 90th+4 minute by Luther Singh, who was set up for the third time by Appollis, who completed a hat-trick of assists.

Perfect record for Bafana Bafana

With this emphatic victory, Pitso Mosimane’s side move firmly to the top of Group D with 6 points. It is an ideal start to the campaign after their opening 2-1 win over Guinea’s Syli National.
