AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Wednesday’s matchday 2 schedule!

Only one match is scheduled this Wednesday in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers, with South Africa facing Eritrea in Cairo.

The second matchday of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers continues this Wednesday, September 30, with only one match on the schedule. After a particularly busy Tuesday, marked by 17 matches across the continent, all eyes now turn to Group D.

Eritrea - South Africa: 16:00 GMT

The match will be played in Cairo, Egypt, at a neutral venue. On the opening matchday, Eritrea shared the points with Kenya (1-1), while South Africa secured a 2-1 victory over Guinea.

South Africa can take a major step forward in Group D

With three points, the Bafana Bafana sit top of the group ahead of this match. Eritrea and Kenya have one point each, while Guinea are bottom with no points. South Africa made a perfect start to their campaign by beating Guinea 2-1, thanks in particular to Samukele Kabini’s decisive goal in the second half.

The stakes are particularly high in this group, as Kenya have already qualified for the finals as co-hosts. Under the qualifying format, only the highest-ranked team among South Africa, Guinea and Eritrea will therefore join Kenya at AFCON 2027. A win this Wednesday would allow South Africa to immediately strengthen their position in this race.
