Argentina: Diego Simeone’s heartfelt message for Lionel Messi

Days after Lionel Messi’s farewell to the Argentina national team, Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone paid tribute to the legacy left by his compatriot.

At a press conference, Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone, who faced La Pulga on numerous occasions when he was playing for FC Barcelona, paid tribute to him. The Argentine coach considers Lionel Messi a historic reference point in football. “We Argentines are grateful to have had the best player in history. Given his statistics, Messi is unbeatable. I want to thank him for everything he has taught us,” said the Colchoneros coach.

Beyond the figures and records, Diego Simeone also highlighted the mentality conveyed by the Albiceleste captain throughout his international career. “He taught us that when things are going badly, you have to fight and keep moving forward,” he said.

Although he played his last match for Argentina, which ended in a 3-0 victory over Benin and marked his 126th goal in 208 appearances, Lionel Messi also took to social media to thank his loved ones, former teammates, coaches and the supporters who accompanied him throughout this journey.
