Arsenal: Mikel Merino wants to win everything
Interview
Mikel Merino does not want to put any limits on Arsenal’s ambitions. After the 3-0 victory over Lille in the Champions League, the Spanish midfielder said that the London club was targeting every trophy this season, notably the Premier League and the Champions League.
Merino wants to go all the way on every front
Arsenal continued their strong start to the campaign by dominating Lille thanks to goals from Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka. The Gunners thus secured a second victory in two matches in the league phase of the Champions League. Speaking to Sky Sports, Merino clearly outlined the dressing room’s ambitions:
The objective is to win the Champions League, the Premier League, to win everything. That is what the manager wants, what the fans want and what we also want as players.
The Spain international believes that the disappointment of the previous season, marked by a defeat in the European final against Paris Saint-Germain, can serve as motivation:
We were so close last season. It showed us that we were ready. Now, everything comes down to the details, to our ability to be present and ready at the right moment.
Merino’s words reflect the confidence of a group that believes it has learned from its recent setbacks. Arsenal have a solid collective foundation and are now harbouring ambitions across several competitions.
