Burkina Faso: Mamadou Zongo appointed Étalons U17 head coach

Burkina Faso football has a new head coach for the cadet team. Mamadou Zongo, known as Bebeto, has been appointed head coach of the Étalons U17. He succeeds Issa Balboné, who has been called up to lead the women's national team.

A renowned coach developer

A well-known figure in Burkinabè football, Mamadou Zongo wore the Étalons shirt on several occasions. Since retiring, he has made a name for himself in youth development. Founder and coach of Vitesse FC, he has just guided the first-division club to a historic achievement: winning the Coupe du Faso in 2026 and securing a first qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.

A huge task

The mission is set to begin immediately. Burkina Faso will host the UFOA B qualifying tournament for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, from October 10 to 23 at Stade du 4 Août. Absent from the 2026 edition, the country is dreaming of a return. Zongo will have to qualify the Étalons U17 for 2027, in the most emblematic category of national football.
