CECAFA U17: Somalia knock out Kenya and reach the semi-finals

It is all over at Kigali Pelé Stadium. Somalia have qualified for the semi-finals of the CECAFA tournament qualifying for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations. The young Somalis caused a sensation by beating Kenya 2-0 on Tuesday.

Stronger than Kenya

In a winner-takes-all match, the game was decided in two stages. Mohamud Osman opened the scoring in the 41st minute, just before half-time. Kenya pushed for an equaliser, but Abdullahi Hashi doubled the lead in the 85th minute and sealed qualification.

After holding Tanzania to a 1-1 draw, the reigning champions and African runners-up, Somalia have confirmed their excellent tournament and finish unbeaten in Group C.

A qualification in a rare scenario

Group C will go down as a curiosity. With this result, Tanzania and Somalia finish level on every count: four points each, three goals scored, one conceded, a +2 goal difference and a 1-1 draw between them. Tanzania also qualify for the semi-finals.
