Eric Tinkler and his Asante Kotoko charges settled for a 2-2 draw with Debibi United in the opening match of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign over the weekend.

The Porcupine Warriors drew first blood through Yakubu Dogo in the 14th minute, taking a 1-0 lead into the half-time break at Golden City Park in Berekum.

Debibi United, however, made their intentions clear in the second stanza as Richard Owusu restored parity four minutes after the interval.

He completed his brace in the 74th minute, but Hubert Gyau salvaged a draw for Tinkler's men seven minutes later for a share of the spoils in a four-goal thriller.

Kotoko, as a result, are in sixth place on the Ghana topflight standings as they look to improve on their eighth-placed finish in the 2025/26 campaign.

Appointed in July, Tinkler has been tasked with winning the league title, with the club's last championship dating back to the 2021/22 season.

The South African tactician is also expected to win domestic cup titles following a trophyless last term, and seal a spot in CAF inter-club competitions for the next season.

Notably, Tinkler kickstarted his tenure as Kotoko boss with a 4-1 penalty shootout victory over bitter rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup last month.

With the two-time African champions set to return to league action with a clash against Heart of Lions on Saturday, the 56-year-old mentor will be eager to get off the mark.
