FC Barcelona: Alejandro Baldé now open to leaving
Having stayed at Barça despite the club’s desire for him to leave last summer, Alejandro Baldé has reportedly changed his mind and is now considering leaving Catalonia.
FC Barcelona have been flying since the start of the season, but not all players are benefiting from this momentum. This is notably the case for Alejandro Baldé, who has become virtually invisible in Hansi Flick’s rotation despite the Blaugrana recording ten wins in as many matches.
According to Sport, the Spanish left-back is now seriously considering leaving as early as the next winter transfer window. He has reportedly already informed his agent, Jorge Mendes, of this possibility. This is a notable development, since the situation was exactly the opposite a few months ago.
Barça wanted to sell him, but Baldé chose to stay
During the last summer transfer window, Barcelona’s board was ready to part ways with Baldé and was looking for an exit that could generate a significant fee. The player, however, did not want to leave and ultimately decided to stay in an attempt to win back his place.
Manchester United were among the clubs most interested at the time and were pushing hard to secure his signature. The Red Devils had made the Spanish defender one of their priorities, but his desire to continue at Barça had stalled the deal.
Just 12 minutes this season
A few weeks later, the context has completely changed. Baldé has played just 12 minutes since the start of the season and is now well down the pecking order at left-back. This is a difficult situation for a player who had hoped to regain an important role.
This time, then, he could be the one to ask to leave. If his situation does not improve by the winter, a move in January will appear increasingly credible. It remains to be seen whether Manchester United, who pushed hard last summer, will return with another offer.
