FIFA ranking: the new provisional African top 10!

The provisional FIFA ranking after the second matchday of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers features several significant changes in the African top 10.

The African hierarchy is already changing after the first matches of this international window. In the provisional FIFA ranking, Morocco now sits in 5th place in the world, gaining one position, while Algeria drops one place to 30th. The next official update will definitively confirm these changes.

Morocco gain a place, Algeria lose one

Sixth in the previous reference ranking, Morocco provisionally move up to 5th in the world. The Atlas Lions made a perfect start to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers with two 2-0 victories, against Gabon and then Lesotho. Morocco had already provisionally entered the world top five during this international window.

Algeria have experienced the opposite movement. The Fennecs drop from 29th to 30th in the world, losing one place despite taking four points from a possible six. After their 3-1 win over Zambia, the 2-2 draw conceded against Burundi weighed on their provisional total.

Morocco: 5th in the world (+1 place)

Senegal: 19th (-1 place)

Egypt: 24th (0 places, unchanged)

Ivory Coast: 28th (+3 places)

Algeria: 30th (-1 place)

Nigeria: 31st (-5 places)

DR Congo: 39th (+2 places)

Cameroon: 45th (-2 places)

Mali: 47th (+6 places)

South Africa: 50th (+4 places)

Nigeria tumble, Mali surge

Among the most notable changes, Nigeria provisionally lose five places, dropping from 26th to 31st in the world. Conversely, Mali make the biggest improvement in the African top 10, gaining six places to move from 53rd to 47th.

Ivory Coast also gain three places, moving from 31st to 28th, while DR Congo climb two positions to 39th. South Africa rise four places to break into the world top 50. Cameroon drop two places, while Senegal lose one and Egypt remain unchanged in 24th.

This ranking remains provisional and may still change with the final results of the international window before its next official publication by FIFA.
