FIFA: Wales withdraws its support for Gianni Infantino
Gianni Infantino

Support for Gianni Infantino is crumbling. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has announced that it will no longer back the FIFA president's bid for another term at the helm of world football's governing body.

The FFE project at the center of criticism

According to Sky News, Wales has become the first national federation to openly withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino ahead of the presidential election scheduled for the 2027-2031 period. The FAW had previously indicated that it would vote in favor of the Swiss official. However, recent controversies have led the Welsh association to reconsider its stance.

In a statement, the federation referred to "significant shortcomings in governance, transparency, communication, and judgment", stating that it has lost confidence in the way Gianni Infantino leads world football. This decision comes just days after the withdrawal of the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project. This stance also contrasts with that of some African federations, such as FECOFA, which have recently reaffirmed their trust in Gianni Infantino despite the abandonment of the FFE project.
