Football / Ligue 1 Lonaci: Yamoussoukro FC, the promoted side already shaking up the pecking order
Having only just arrived in the top flight of Ivorian football, Yamoussoukro FC is already showing its ambitions. Promoted this season after playing in Ligue 2, the club from Côte d’Ivoire’s political capital has made a particularly convincing start to the championship.
After causing a surprise on the opening day by defeating the reigning champions, ASEC Mimosas (1-0), the Rams confirmed their excellent start on the occasion of matchday 2. Against Mouna FC, Yamoussoukro FC secured another victory, this time by a score of 2-0.
Two matches, two victories and, above all, no goals conceded. The promoted side is therefore not merely discovering Ligue 1 Lonaci; it is already making its mark with authority. With three goals scored since the start of the season, the Yamoussoukro outfit sits alone at the top of the table with six points.
Bruno Rohart: “The work must continue”
After this latest victory, Yamoussoukro FC coach Bruno Rohart was pleased with the three points, while calling on his players to remain focused.
“We are satisfied with the 03 points, but we can do better, even though the objective is to take points. The work must continue!”
The statement reflects the coach’s determination not to get carried away despite this flying start. Although the results are there, the championship is still a long way from over, and the upcoming opponents will provide a clearer measure of the promoted side’s true level.
A promoted side with no intention of making up the numbers
With six points from a possible six, Yamoussoukro FC has already moved into the leader’s seat and sent a clear message to its rivals: the club did not come up to Ligue 1 Lonaci to make up the numbers.
The coming matchdays will therefore be closely watched. They will show whether this team can maintain this pace and establish itself over the long term in the race for the top positions.
Yamoussoukro FC has already made a strong statement. The promoted side now wants to confirm this form and, who knows, help shake up the hierarchy of Ivorian football.
