The Argentine capital Buenos Aires will host the match between Argentina and Benin tomorrow, Wednesday, in a highly anticipated encounter that is expected to mark Lionel Messi’s farewell to La Albiceleste.

The match will be played at the Monumental Stadium, in front of nearly 85,000 expected spectators, in what should be Messi’s final appearance for the Argentine national team after an international career that began in 2005.

The Argentine star announced last August that he would retire from international football at the age of 39, after more than two decades with the national team. During that period, Messi won the Copa América in 2021 and 2024, as well as the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Nicknamed “La Pulga”, Messi had also played in the 2026 World Cup final against Spain, which La Roja won 1-0, before deciding to bring his international career to an end.

Against Benin, Argentina’s all-time leading scorer is therefore expected to close a long chapter with La Albiceleste after more than 20 years in the national shirt and having left a major mark on the history of Argentine football.

What time will Argentina face Benin?

The “Albiceleste” national team will face their Beninese counterparts overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, October 7, from midnight Greenwich Mean Time on the pitch at the Más Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.
