Fulham: Álvaro Arbeloa under pressure
Interview
Álvaro Arbeloa is going through a difficult period at the helm of Fulham. After six Premier League matches without a win, the London club sit bottom of the table with just two points. Despite this situation, the former Real Madrid coach says he is not worried about his position.
Another defeat weakens Arbeloa
Having arrived in the summer to succeed Marco Silva, who left for Benfica, Álvaro Arbeloa is struggling to get his first season in the Premier League off the ground. On Saturday, Fulham once again dropped points against Ipswich Town, losing 2-1 after appearing capable of securing their first win for much of the match. Ryan Sessegnon had put the Londoners ahead, but Ipswich turned the game around in the closing minutes, scoring twice after the 88th minute.
This defeat extends Fulham’s winless run and intensifies questions surrounding the Spanish coach’s work. According to the BBC, the club have also conceded goals in the final quarter of the match in four of their first six league games. A defensive weakness that is proving costly for a team nevertheless capable of producing good football.
“I never worry about my position”
Despite the growing pressure, Arbeloa refuses to be distracted by speculation about his future. “I never worry about my position,” the coach told the BBC. He also stressed the need to remain focused on the day-to-day work and to continue trusting his players.
Rumours have also emerged of Fulham’s interest in Thomas Frank, who has been presented as a potential successor. However, the Spaniard remains under contract with the London club until the summer of 2029.
