Harry Kane or Michael Olise?… Herbert Hainer’s choice for the Ballon d’Or
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has named his favourite for the Ballon d’Or between Harry Kane and Michael Olise. While he believes both players deserve the honour, he favours the England striker while praising the progress made by the France international.
In comments reported by Foot Mercato, the Bayern chief clearly revealed his choice: “Both Michael Olise and Harry Kane deserve to win the Ballon d’Or, but I would give it to Harry Kane.”
He nevertheless pointed out that Olise still had many years ahead of him to win the award: "Michael Olise still has many years ahead of him to win the Ballon d’Or."
Hainer expresses his confidence in Michael Olise
Asked about the France winger’s future, as some believe the Bundesliga no longer represents a sufficient challenge for a player of his calibre, Herbert Hainer defended Bayern Munich’s sporting project.
"We are extremely happy to have Michael Olise with us. He has become one of the best players in the world and I am convinced that he can win the Ballon d’Or one day, perhaps even this year," he said.
He added: “He feels very good with us. He can win titles with Bayern and compete at the highest level in Europe. We reached the Champions League semi-finals and played great matches against PSG. That is what he is looking for.”
Regarding the rumours linking Olise with Real Madrid, Hainer reaffirmed Bayern Munich’s desire to keep their player: “I am convinced that Bayern Munich is a club that cannot be forced to sell its players, because we make our decisions from a position of strength.”
Finally, the Bayern president recalled that Olise’s contract runs until 2029, before adding: “I hope he will agree to extend his contract.”
