Is Brighton preparing for a Yankuba Minteh departure?

Is Brighton ready to let Yankuba Minteh go? With Liverpool submitting a bid for the Gambian winger, the English club has reportedly made inquiries about Cameron Ashia, the young Huddersfield Town player.

Ashia on Brighton's radar

According to Football Insider, Brighton has asked about Cameron Ashia's situation. The 21-year-old winger currently plays for Huddersfield Town in League One and is under contract until June 2027. Last season, Ashia featured in 21 league matches, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

This move from Brighton comes in a rather specific context. Liverpool recently tabled a £50 million bid—around €58 million—for Yankuba Minteh. Brighton rejected the offer, but the Gambian international is reportedly open to a move to the Reds.

A clue about Minteh's future?

The link between Brighton and Ashia may therefore be tied to Yankuba Minteh's situation. The 22-year-old is under contract until 2029, but Liverpool's interest could quickly change the scenario. Brighton clearly does not want to be caught off guard. By already identifying a potential replacement, the club is ensuring it has options in case negotiations with Liverpool progress.

However, this does not mean the Gambian's departure is a done deal. Still, Brighton's search for an alternative suggests the club is preparing for multiple scenarios—especially with a player under contract until 2029, putting them in a strong negotiating position.
