Ivory Coast: Odilon Kossounou and Guéla Doué to miss the September–October window

A major blow for the Elephants’ defense. In a statement published on Saturday, the Ivorian Football Federation announced that Odilon Kossounou and Guéla Doué will miss the September–October 2026 FIFA window.

According to the Ivorian Football Federation, the two defenders who were initially called up are injured.

Hervé Renard calls up Diaz and Zogbé

To replace them, coach Hervé Renard has called up Junior Diaz and Luck Zogbé. The former, 23, plays for Troyes in Ligue 1 and has one international cap for Ivory Coast. He will replace Kossounou in central defense.

The latter, a 21-year-old right-back who also plays for Stade Brestois in France’s top flight, returns to the national team. Luck Zogbé, who has made four international appearances since August 2025, will replace Guéla Doué on the right flank.

Three fixtures on the schedule

The two players will join the squad for three matches. The Elephants will face Ghana on September 24 in the opening round of the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers, then Somalia on September 29, before playing a prestigious friendly against Cameroon on October 3.
