Jordan Lefort scores his first goal for Mauritania

Called up for the first time by the Mauritanian national team, Jordan Lefort made an impact against Argentina in a friendly match held in Buenos Aires.

Despite the Mourabitounes' defeat (2-1), with goals from Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez (17’) and Como’s rising star Nico Paz (32’), it was Jordan Lefort who made his mark by finding the net on his debut appearance.

The Angers defender narrowed the gap in stoppage time (90+4’), allowing his national team to finish the match on a high note against the world champions from Argentina.

“My wife is Mauritanian, her whole family is too. We got passports for my children, and they were naturalized as well. We went through the same process for me, it went through, and as soon as my passport was valid, I became eligible. The coach called me up, and I can't wait to discover the national team, my teammates, the staff, the whole atmosphere, and to be an international,” he said at the time of his call-up.

It was quite the baptism of fire for the newly naturalized Mauritanian, whose partner and in-laws are of Mauritanian descent. At 32, there was no better way to make his debut than to score at La Bombonera, against Lionel Messi and his teammates.
