Manchester City: financial allegations, major fear among young players

Revealed exclusively by The Athletic, Manchester City have been found guilty of almost all the charges brought against them. The announcement has sparked a wave of indignation and an outcry across the country, where pundits and supporters are crying foul and calling for exemplary sanctions.

Despite this verdict, the British authorities have not yet determined the exact nature of the sanctions. The off-field crisis has made its way into the Three Lions camp, where Elliot Anderson, Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly have been called up. While captain Harry Kane and manager Thomas Tuchel recently denied that these allegations were having a negative impact on the Sky Blues players called up by England, events on the pitch suggest otherwise.

Indeed, in the defeat against Spain (2-3), Marc Guehi was guilty of an error that led to Lamine Yamal’s opening goal. Proof that something is not right with City’s players in this camp. Nico O’Reilly, who started on the left side of the defense, was at fault for Spain’s second goal.

L’Equipe also reported on Tuesday that the entourage of City’s players confirmed that behind-the-scenes discussions keep circling back to a rather extraordinary threat. The Cityzens fear a massive points deduction that could simply condemn the reigning champions to administrative relegation to the Championship.
