Morocco: Mouine Chaabani makes history with Berkane
What seemed improbable at the start of the season is becoming a dream come true for RS Berkane, the only club in the world to top the Botola Pro standings, and on the verge of their first ever Moroccan championship.
Behind this long-awaited triumph is the Tunisian Mouine Chaabani. The former captain of Esperance Sportive de Tunis had already made history by winning two Champions League titles in 6 months with the Sang&Or between 2018 and 2019 as coach, before enjoying other interesting spells in Egypt.
The Berkane epic
After arriving at Berkane last season, he had already reached the final of the CAF Confederation Cup, with a bitter defeat by Zamalek, but it was this season in particular that Chaabani excelled.
Only one defeat in 23 games and 17 victories, giving him a more than comfortable 15-point lead over the great Wydad.
Two victories in the last 7 games will ensure Berkane's first title in their history, enough to make a statue of the 43-year-old Tunisian, who has just turned down an offer to coach the Carthage Eagles to...make history!
