Morocco Women's AFCON 2026: CAF doubles champion's prize

A major boost for African women's football. On June 22 in South Africa, Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr. Patrice Motsepe announced a significant financial increase for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Two million dollars for the winners

The champions of the upcoming Women's AFCON will take home $2 million, double the previous prize of just $1 million. CAF President said, “The winners of the Women's AFCON will now receive a $2 million reward.” This is a significant step toward the professionalization of the tournament and boosting its appeal. Through this move, CAF aims to provide more resources to national federations and encourage greater investment in women's national teams.

Tournament format changes

The number of participating teams will rise to 16, up from 12 in previous editions. Motsepe explained, “We have increased the number of teams for the next Women's Africa Cup of Nations.” This expansion has already paved the way for historic achievements, such as Cape Verde qualifying for the first time ever.

With more teams and more prize money, the Morocco Women's AFCON 2026 is shaping up to be the most ambitious edition in the tournament's history.
