Press reports have revealed that the "Black Cats"—Sunderland—are seriously interested in signing the Mozambican star Geny Catamo. The player is also attracting interest from several other clubs in England and across Europe, including Newcastle United.

At 25 years of age, Geny Catamo has caught the eye of Sunderland's hierarchy, who admire his attacking qualities and his ability to operate effectively down the right flank. The English club had already attempted to secure his signature during the summer, but Sporting CP stood firm on their financial demands.

The Portuguese side were asking for the full value of his release clause, set at €60 million. Sunderland, for their part, were prepared to go as high as €40 million — an offer that fell short of convincing the Lisbon club's decision-makers.

Sunderland will also have to contend with competition from Newcastle United, who are keeping tabs on the Mozambican international as well. Everton, Leeds United, Bournemouth and Brentford are said to have watched his performances closely in recent times.

With two goals and four assists in 11 appearances across all competitions this season, Catamo continues to stand out in Sporting's colours. According to the source, the player remains keen on a move to the Premier League. Whether Sunderland can meet the Portuguese club's financial demands in the next transfer window remains to be seen. Under contract until 30 June 2029, the 25-year-old forward is valued at €35 million on Transfermarkt.
