Burkina Faso is set to take on the world’s elite. On 4 September, the Burkina Faso Football Federation officially announced a high-profile friendly match against Argentina.

This will be a first-ever encounter. The Étalons have never faced the Albiceleste before. The match is scheduled for 3 October 2026 in Buenos Aires.

A busy international break

The match forms part of the October international break, which follows on from the September break. It comes immediately after the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifying window. The Étalons kick off their campaign on 25 September 2026 at home, hosting Benin at the Stade du 4-Août in Ouagadougou. Kick-off is scheduled for 7.00 pm GMT. Three days later, they head to Morocco. On 27 September, Amir Abdou and his men face the Central African Republic in Casablanca.

A test against the champions

After facing Russia and Belarus in June, Burkina Faso are stepping it up a notch. Their opponents: the Albiceleste. World champions in 2022 and runners-up in 2026. Note that Lionel Messi has retired from international football. The Étalons will be up against a new-look Argentina side without the legend, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
