Official: RS Berkane pull off major coup by signing Cape Verde captain Ryan Mendes

RS Berkane continue to assemble a squad built for the big stage. As previously reported, the Moroccan club has now officially announced the signing of Ryan Mendes. The veteran winger has penned a one-year contract with an option for a further season.

After the end of his contract with Igdir FK in Turkey, the 36-year-old was recommended by Bubista. The former coach who led the Blue Sharks to the World Cup Round of 16, has also joined RS Berkane and knows the abilities of his compatriot inside out.

A résumé that commands respect

At 36, Ryan Mendes arrives in Berkane with a storied international career. He has featured in four Africa Cup of Nations editions—2013, 2015, 2021, and 2023—with Cape Verde. He made history by captaining his nation to the Round of 16 at the most recent World Cup in the United States, where he delivered a crucial assist against Argentina. His club career speaks for itself, boasting nearly 200 top-flight appearances, while on the international stage he has earned 100 caps and scored 22 goals.

After clinching the 2025 Moroccan league title, RS Berkane are hungry to reclaim their throne in the Botola Pro and, above all, to make a strong run in the CAF Champions League.
