Official: Thomas Partey joins Al Shabab
Thomas Partey is changing leagues. Now a free agent after leaving Villarreal, the Ghanaian midfielder has officially signed with Al Shabab on a one-year deal.
A new chapter after Villarreal
At 33, Partey left Arsenal last summer to join Villarreal as a free agent. His contract included an optional extra year, but the Spanish club ultimately decided not to extend his stay. Last season, the Ghana international made 25 La Liga appearances, starting in eight of them.
With Al Shabab, Thomas Partey has now signed a one-year contract. He returns to the Saudi Pro League, a competition that is increasingly attracting experienced players from European football.
An experienced addition for Al Shabab
Partey brings considerable experience to his new team. Before his departure from Arsenal, he played five seasons for the Gunners after leaving Atlético de Madrid in 2020.
With Ghana, he has also earned 60 caps and scored 15 goals. His international experience could prove to be a valuable asset for Al Shabab. At 33, his main challenge will be to maintain enough physical consistency to become a key player throughout an entire season once again.
