Oswin Appollis reveals secret to scintillating form at Pirates
Interview
Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis has revealed the secret behind his scintillating form in his debut campaign with the Buccaneers.
The 24-year-old attacker signed for the Soweto giants in a blockbuster move from Polokwane City at the beginning of the season, with the deal already paying dividends.
Appollis has been instrumental in Pirates' quest for the elusive Betway Premiership title, chipping in with eight goals and six assists in 25 matches.
Overall, the former SuperSport United man has contributed to 11 goals and nine assists in 38 games across all competitions - a testament to his influence in the team.
The Bafana international has been tipped for the PSL Footballer of the Season award, and he has attributed his top drawer displays to hard work and heeding instructions.
“It's come down to hard work. I think most importantly it's also listening to the coach and secondly it's working together, be a team player, work with your teammates because I think that's the most important thing that makes you grow,” said the Bucs star.
"And I think I've been doing that, being a team player, and working hard.
With the looming Soweto derby expected to make or break Pirates' hopes of clinching the championship, the player says the focus in camp remains on one game at a time.
“I think there's five or six games left this season, our most important thing is that we are focusing on one game at a time and that's Sunday. I think that's what the coach and the boys said like we focus on one game at a time and we will stick to that,” Appollis added.
Pirates will host Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Sunday, aiming to extend their winning streak against their fierce rivals in the league to six games.
