Premier League: Mamadou Sangaré enjoys a dream debut
The start couldn't be better for Brentford and for Mamadou Sangaré. The Bees thrashed Tottenham 3-0 this weekend in the opening round of the Premier League, and the Malian shone for his first appearance in the English top flight.
Named in the starting eleven, the Malian international with 16 caps delivered a series of quality passes in midfield. Putting in a complete performance, he was named man of the match.
A confirmation after pre-season
Sangaré had already set the tone in pre-season. On August 8, he delivered an assist against Rennes in a 4-1 victory. A week later, the Malian scored a spectacular volley as Brentford cruised to a 7-0 win over Frankfurt. He’s clearly carried that form into the league, immediately integrating into Brentford’s midfield.
The most expensive signing in club history
At 24, Mamadou Sangaré has become the most expensive signing in Brentford’s history. The London club splashed out €48 million to prise him away from Lens. He arrives with an impressive CV: last season, he played 33 matches for Les Sang et Or, won the Coupe de France, and finished runners-up in Ligue 1. With such a flying start, the Malian midfielder’s English adventure is off to a perfect beginning.
