Ruled out of Friday's trip to Lille, Ousmane Dembélé immediately became the subject of speculation. But according to L'Équipe, the reality is quite different, and all parties agree: the rest period was a mutual decision.

It all started in Rennes

After being subbed off at halftime—at the same time as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia—Ousmane Dembélé rushed to the locker room, clearly frustrated after a disappointing first half. Luis Enrique raised his voice to the entire squad, criticizing their lack of commitment. Dembélé didn't take kindly to this tough talk—it was enough for him to seek an immediate explanation with his coach as soon as the final whistle blew.

According to L'Équipe, the exchange was straightforward. The Frenchman couldn't understand such strictness so early in the season—after just one subpar half, with no chance to immediately redeem himself. To show his commitment, the former Barça man pointed out that he had resumed individual training much earlier than expected, including sessions at Insep, all in an effort to be ready as soon as possible—a sign of his dedication to a season he hopes will be victorious.

The two men met again on Monday morning at the PSG Campus, with sporting advisor Luis Campos also present, to formalize this break for Ousmane Dembélé. All involved now consider this decision to be in the best interest of the player.
