Real Madrid: Bernardo Silva sparks controversy in Madrid
Having completely disappeared from the Real Madrid squad in recent days, Bernardo Silva has become a controversial figure among the Merengues.
Tonight, Real Madrid will face AS Roma in the Champions League. But there is also a player who is being widely discussed in the Spanish capital. That player is Bernardo Silva, who arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu just a few weeks ago. While it initially seemed clear that the Merengues had pulled off a superb coup by signing the Portuguese international, the Special One does not really appear to be counting on his compatriot.
Bernardo Silva has played just six matches this season, including three starts. The former Manchester City player has not started a match since September 12, against Rayo, and did not even come on during his team’s last two games, against Elche before the international break and Villarreal last weekend.
Silva is a topic of debate in Madrid
The Portuguese player’s situation is clearly raising questions in Spain. “What is happening with Bernardo Silva is very strange. For him to have played 15 minutes in the last seven matches is astonishing, incomprehensible,” journalist Siro Lopez said angrily on Cadena COPE last night. For its part, Marca has provided some explanations, notably indicating that Mourinho initially saw Bernardo Silva as the ideal partner for Fede Valverde in Real Madrid’s double pivot, but he quickly became disillusioned.

He believes that the former City and Monaco player cannot play in that position. While the possibility of playing out wide had been discussed when he arrived, it no longer appears to be under consideration today, especially since Arda Güler is untouchable on the right flank.
