Real Madrid: Vinicius apologises after his dismissal against Villarreal
The sending-off of Vinicius Junior against Villarreal could jeopardise his participation in the next Clasico against FC Barcelona. Despite Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory on matchday eight of La Liga, the Brazilian forward faces a suspension of several matches.
In the 73rd minute, the Madrid player was sent off after pulling an opponent’s hair. The incident occurred during an action in which Vinicius had found the back of the net before his goal was disallowed following a review by the video assistant referee (VAR).
According to Spanish radio station COPE, Real Madrid expects a suspension of up to three matches given the referee’s report. The official notably described the Brazilian’s action as aggressive behaviour off the ball.
According to the same source, however, the Madrid club’s management believes that an appeal could reduce the sanction to two matches. Such a decision would rule Vinicius out of the Clasico against FC Barcelona scheduled for Sunday, October 25.
Vinicius could miss El Clasico
After the match, the Brazilian winger spoke on his Instagram account to apologise to his Real Madrid teammates and supporters following his dismissal against Villarreal.
" the joy continues… I apologise to my teammates and the supporters ", Vinicius wrote.
