Real Sociedad was looking for a center back this summer. They found one. On loan from Chelsea through June 2027, Mamadou Sarr arrives in La Liga with a real chance to make his mark.

Pellegrino Matarazzo makes no secret of it. At a press conference, Real Sociedad coach painted an eloquent portrait of the Senegalese player. He speaks of a young man who has already played in the five major leagues. A profile that, in his view, is out of the ordinary.

A Mindset That Fits the Project

What also appeals to Matarazzo is his mindset. The defender arrives eager to succeed right away. “He’s also very ambitious. Despite his young age, he wants to make the most of this season. So we believe he fits perfectly into the squad.”

A Dual-Purpose Player

Another strength highlighted is his versatility. The African champion can fill in on either the right or left side of the defense. “What’s interesting about Mamadou is that he can play on both sides. He can play right or left back,” adds the Real Sociedad coach. This flexibility is invaluable for a squad that’s playing back-to-back competitions.

It therefore makes sense to see Mamadou Sarr already included in the roster for Saturday’s match against Espanyol at 5:00 p.m. GMT.
