Scott McTominay opens the door to a return to the Premier League
Could Scott McTominay return to the Premier League next summer? Two years after leaving Manchester United for Napoli, the Scotland midfielder is reportedly now open to a return to England. According to Sky, several Premier League clubs have already contacted his agent regarding a possible transfer during the next summer transfer window.
McTominay no longer rules out a return to England
After leaving Manchester United in the summer of 2024, McTominay quickly established himself as an important player at Napoli. The 29-year-old midfielder has played 82 matches in all competitions for the Italian club, scoring 27 goals and providing 10 assists. In his first season, he helped the team win the Italian league title and was named the best player in Serie A.
However, after two seasons in Italy, the Scotland international is reportedly now willing to consider a return to his home country. According to Sky journalist Sacha Tavolieri, McTominay has “opened the door” to a return to the Premier League. The player reportedly misses his surroundings in the United Kingdom, while his entourage has already begun sounding out the English market.
Manchester United and Aston Villa already interested
Manchester United and Aston Villa had shown interest in McTominay during the last summer transfer window. The midfielder could therefore return to his former club, although no advanced negotiations have been reported at this stage. According to Sky, his agent is now in contact with several English clubs. This situation could quickly make McTominay one of the experienced midfielders available on the market next summer.
Napoli nevertheless remain in a strong position. McTominay’s contract runs until June 2028, meaning that the Italian club are not under any immediate pressure to sell the player. According to information reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, Napoli could nevertheless consider a sale after this season to avoid later facing the risk of his departure without a transfer fee. His current price is estimated at between €25 million and €30 million.
A situation to monitor
The situation will therefore depend as much on McTominay’s intentions as on Napoli’s. The Scotland international still has two years remaining on his contract, but his openness to a return to the Premier League could accelerate discussions if an offer matching the Italian club’s expectations arrives.
Since leaving Manchester United, McTominay has also strengthened his standing with the Scotland national team. He now has 73 caps and 15 goals. A return to England is therefore a genuine possibility, although no agreement has yet been reached.
