Steven Gerrard open to a return to the dugout
Steven Gerrard could soon return to a coaching role in England. Without a club since leaving Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia in January 2025, the former midfielder would be open to joining Wrexham, according to talkSPORT. The Welsh club is reportedly considering several options if Phil Parkinson is dismissed.
Phil Parkinson under pressure due to results
Currently competing in the Championship, Wrexham are going through a difficult period. After ten matchdays, the club sit 17th in the standings, with just two league victories. The recent 2-1 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion has increased the pressure on Phil Parkinson.
Despite his excellent contribution to the club’s rise, having guided them from the National League to the second tier of English football, the manager must now contend with insufficient results. According to talkSPORT, the club’s hierarchy is considering various possibilities, even though Parkinson maintains a good relationship with the club’s owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Gerrard and Scott Parker among the options
Steven Gerrard would be willing to consider an offer from Wrexham if the position became available. The former Reds captain has been without a role since leaving Al-Ettifaq, where he spent around 18 months.
His experience notably includes a Scottish league title won with Rangers during the 2020-2021 season, as well as more difficult spells at Aston Villa and in the Saudi league. Another name is also being mentioned: Scott Parker. The former Burnley manager is reportedly among the profiles Wrexham could consider in the event of a change in the dugout.
