The sudden passing of Aaron Boupendza, Gabonese international forward and former player of the Girondins de Bordeaux, has caused a strong emotional response among his family, teammates, and the global football community. Amidst the swirling rumors, the Chinese police have officially shed light on the circumstances of his death, ruling out any criminal involvement.
The center-forward of Zhejiang Professional FC died on April 16, 2025, at the age of 28, after a fatal fall from the eleventh floor of a residential building in China.
No criminal trace: Chinese police deliver their version!
In a statement relayed by Chinese media, the authorities explained:
"At around 13:14 on April 16, 2025, our office received a call from the public reporting that an individual had fallen from a building in a residence under our jurisdiction. The police quickly arrived at the scene, and the victim was transported to the hospital for emergency care. Later, he was declared dead at the hospital after treatment failed."
The victim's identity was confirmed: it was Aaron Boupendza, 28 years old, a national of the Republic of Gabon and a foreign player of Zhejiang Professional Football Club.
Following the on-site investigation, supported by the analysis of surveillance cameras and other evidence, investigators established that Boupendza had fallen from the balcony of his apartment. No signs of violence or external intervention were found. The criminal hypothesis has therefore been formally ruled out.
National funeral planned in Gabon!
The final conclusion of the investigation is unequivocal: Aaron Boupendza committed suicide. According to Chinese authorities, he was suffering from severe mental health issues.
The account "Foot Roumain", which closely followed the case's developments, reports that the player had sought help from a psychologist the day before his act, a clear sign of his profound distress.
According to information relayed by the Gabonese press, a national funeral is expected to be organized in the coming days to pay tribute to the former Panthers' striker.
