Transfer market: Chancel Mbemba to Brazil?

Free since his departure from Lille in Ligue 1, Chancel Mbemba, 31, is now on Botafogo's radar. The news was broken by Canal do TF.

According to the Brazilian media, close to O Glorioso, Chancel Mbemba is viewed internally as a defensive reinforcement who can bring experience and leadership to Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas. The Serie A club based in Rio de Janeiro has already opened talks with the defender to persuade him to make the move to South America.

Captain of DR Congo, the 31-year-old central defender boasts over a decade of experience in Europe, having played for Anderlecht, Newcastle, Porto, Olympique de Marseille, and Lille.

Last season, he made 21 appearances for LOSC before leading the Leopards into the round of 16 at the World Cup, where he featured in all four matches and provided an assist against England (1-2 defeat).
