UFOA-A U20: Mali thrash Liberia 3-0
Mali finish on a high note. Already eliminated, the host nation thrashed Liberia 3-0 this Wednesday at the Stade Mamadou Konaté on the third matchday of the UFOA-A tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the 2027 Ghana U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
A victory to leave with their heads held high
After two decisive defeats by the same scoreline of 0-1 against Guinea and then against Gambia, Mali had already been eliminated before this final matchday. The elimination cost head coach Mamour Ou Kane his job. The Eagles had only one mission: to secure their first victory.
Mission accomplished in style against Liberia. The Malians salvaged their pride in front of their home crowd and leave the competition with their heads held high.
Liberia also exit the competition
This heavy defeat brings Liberia's campaign to an end. The Lone Stars had played out a 0-0 draw with Gambia before losing 0-1 to Guinea. With just one point, Liberia are also eliminated.
In the final Group A standings, Gambia finish top with 7 points, ahead of Guinea on 6 points. Mali finish third with 3 points, while Liberia are bottom with one point.
