UFOA B U17: Ghana reach the semi-finals

Ghana are the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the UFOA B tournament serving as qualifiers for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Starlets secured their place on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Benin at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou.

A perfect start

The finalists of the last edition came out firing. Issah Alidu scored twice in the 3rd and 9th minutes to put Ghana in control. Benin pulled one back before half-time through Isegnon Mevowanou, who capitalised on a positional error by the Ghanaian defence.

Ghana maintain their perfect record

After the break, coach Kassim Ocansey's side sealed the outcome of the match. On the hour mark, Nii Odoi Tawiah scored Ghana's third goal. Following their 1-0 win over Togo on the first matchday, Ghana maintained their perfect record with two wins from two matches.

On the final matchday in Group A, the Black Starlets will face Burkina Faso, the host nation and current second-placed team in Group A. It will be a battle for top spot. For Benin, the situation is becoming more complicated. After their 0-0 draw with the Étalons cadets, the U17 Guépards have dropped to third place with 1 point. They will play for survival against Togo on the final matchday.
