Even before their final match against Benin, Togo have been eliminated from the WAFU B qualifying tournament for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations. The U17 Sparrowhawks fell 0-1 to Burkina Faso on Tuesday at the Stade du 4 Août, in the second round of Group A.

A second fatal defeat

Togo will not be at the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations. The young Togolese side suffered a second defeat in Ouagadougou against the host nation. After fierce resistance and a first half they dominated, the Sparrowhawks cracked in the second half. A defeat, following the 0-1 loss to Ghana, that seals their elimination even before the third matchday.

Burkina Faso revive their campaign

The U17 Stallions suffered. Dominated for long spells and at a physical disadvantage, they saved the essentials in the first half with the score at 0-0. After the break, the introduction of Compaoré Aziz injected fresh impetus. The midfield stabilized and the chances multiplied. In the 66th minute, from a corner, Komi Abdoul Ouattara arrived at the right moment. The captain and central defender headed home. The only goal of the match. The Rahimo FC player was named man of the match.

After being held to a 0-0 draw by Benin on the opening matchday, Burkina Faso now have 4 points. A draw against Ghana, who have already qualified, on the final matchday will be enough to qualify for the semi-finals. Togo, meanwhile, will try to salvage their pride against Benin in a derby between neighboring countries.
