WAFU-B U17: Ghana take control of Group A

The WAFU-B tournament qualifying for the next U17 Africa Cup of Nations got underway on October 10 at the 4-August Stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. In the opening match, the host nation were held to a 0-0 draw by Benin. Ghana secured a positive result by taking all three points against Togo in a 1-0 victory.

Burkina Faso make a poor start

The U17 Stallions dominated Benin but lacked precision in front of goal. The hosts pressed forward without finding a breakthrough. The final score was 0-0. The two teams therefore shared the points in the opening match.

Ghana move to the top of Group A

Benin and Burkina Faso's draw worked in Ghana's favour. Runners-up in 2025 in Côte d'Ivoire, the Black Starlets made a strong start to the competition. They beat Togo 1-0. David Kwarteng scored the only goal of the match. It was the first goal of the competition.

On the second matchday, scheduled for October 13, Benin will face Ghana, while Togo will take on Burkina Faso. Group B gets underway this Sunday with Côte d'Ivoire versus Niger from 4 p.m. GMT.
