What happened: A special bond remembered

Kearney who has built a large social media following through his dedicated support of the Merseyside club, took to his official channels to wish the 34 year old forward well in his new chapter in the Turkish Super Lig.

"Congratulations on your new adventure, I will keep supporting you wherever you play" Kearney wrote in his heartfelt tribute.

"You have given me wonderful, unforgettable memories and I will miss seeing you in a Liverpool shirt. Thank you for everything, Mo. You will always hold a very special place in my heart"

He concluded his message by reaffirming his loyalty to the player:

"Good luck with your new club Trabzonspor. I will continue to support you always and I will miss you a lot"

Raising awareness for Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome

Kearney was born with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, a rare genetic condition and has used his platform and love for Liverpool to raise global awareness.

The young fan developed a unique bond with Salah in recent years. In 2024, the Egyptian winger, alongside club captain Virgil van Dijk, surprised Kearney with a special visit to his school to celebrate his birthday.

Kearney later returned the favour by visiting the club's training centre where he spent time with the squad and former manager Arne Slot.

His most memorable milestone arrived when he fulfilled a lifelong dream by walking out as a team mascot at Anfield for a high profile Premier League fixture against Manchester City. The club’s video documenting the day garnered over 122 million views worldwide, significantly amplifying Kearney's efforts to educate the public about his condition.

While the footballing world often focuses on the sporting and financial ramifications of major transfers, Kearney's message highlights the profound off pitch impact Salah cultivated during his nine year tenure at Anfield.

Salah's relationship with young supporters and his involvement in community outreach solidified his status not just as a legendary goalscorer but as a cultural ambassador for the club.
