Congolese supporters received bad news ahead of the June international break: Aaron Wan-Bissaka, West Ham United’s right-back, will not be joining the DR Congo national team after all, despite much anticipation following his first call-up by head coach Sébastien Desabre.

In an official statement released on its channels, the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA) clarified that the player’s absence is due to personal medical reasons, requiring him to be with his wife during this sensitive period.

To recap, Sébastien Desabre had announced on Thursday, May 8, a 26-man squad for two friendly matches: against Mali on June 5 and Madagascar on June 8, as part of preparations for the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The official FECOFA statement regarding Aaron Wan-Bissaka's absence

Here is the statement released by FECOFA regarding Aaron Wan-Bissaka's absence:

The Federation informs the public that player Aaron Wan-Bissaka will not participate in the Leopards’ training camp scheduled for June in France.
This absence is due to personal medical reasons, requiring his presence alongside his wife.

It should be noted that in recent months, the Federation has successfully completed all official procedures required with the British authorities. For his part, the player signed a sworn statement confirming his decision to represent the Democratic Republic of Congo for the entirety of his international career.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka personally informed the coach of this exceptional situation and reaffirmed his total commitment to wearing the DR Congo jersey in future matches, subject to selection.
