2026 World Cup - South Africa: Hugo Broos analyzes his team's level

On Tuesday night, South Africa suffered a defeat against Panama in Johannesburg. Facing the press, Hugo Broos admitted there is plenty to fix before the 2026 World Cup.

At this 2026 World Cup, South Africa will compete in Group A alongside Mexico, South Korea, and the Czech Republic. However, according to Hugo Broos, Bafana Bafana still aren’t ready.

"We have the players present here and those playing abroad, that's all. So I know there are still weaknesses in the squad, and we can't go into the World Cup with our current level—we need to bring something extra. Once again, we can work on that. There may be other players to watch in the coming months who could make our team better and stronger," said the Bafana Bafana head coach.

Hugo Broos is even considering new opportunities to experiment with his squad before the main event kicks off this summer: "So I knew the point of this match wasn’t to say, after the final whistle, that we are ready—there are still three months left. But it was interesting to see what we still need, and that’s what we are going to work on."
