Ghana will have to make do without Alexander Djiku against Gambia. According to several Ghanaian media outlets, the centre-back is ruled out of this 2027 AFCON qualifier, scheduled for Tuesday, September 29 at Accra Sports Stadium.

An injury sustained against Côte d’Ivoire

Alexander Djiku was injured during Ghana’s opening match against Côte d’Ivoire, played in Bouaké. The defender was forced to leave his teammates prematurely, raising concerns about his availability for the next fixture. Despite the injury, the player said in an interview with 3Sports that he was determined to return to the pitch quickly in order to help his national team.

I suffered this injury three weeks ago, but I wanted to be there for my country. I will do everything possible to be ready for the next match.

However, medical examinations confirmed that he would not recover sufficiently in time to face Gambia.

A blow for Carlos Queiroz

His absence is a blow for coach Carlos Queiroz, who will have to do without an important member of his defensive unit for this second round of qualifying. The Black Stars head into the match needing to respond after their 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening fixture.
