2027 AFCON qualifiers: all Friday’s results and goalscorers

Fourteen matches took place in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers on Friday, featuring expected wins, notable draws and numerous African goalscorers.

The first matchday of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers continued on Friday, 25 September, with fourteen matches. Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria and Mali all began with victories, while Senegal and Egypt dropped their first points.

Algeria and Morocco start with three points

In Tizi Ouzou, Brahim Hemdani’s Algeria defeated Zambia 3-1. Jaouen Hadjam opened the scoring in the 2nd minute before Fashion Sakala equalised (57th). Ibrahim Maza restored the Greens’ lead in the 67th minute, then Anis Hadj Moussa sealed the win in the 74th, three minutes after coming on. Mohamed Amoura provided two assists, while Maza finished with a goal and an assist.

Morocco also did what was required by beating Gabon 2-0. Noussair Mazraoui opened the scoring in the 36th minute before substitute Soufiane Rahimi doubled the lead in the 84th. The record of Morocco-Gabon meetings had already highlighted the Atlas Lions’ historical advantage.

Senegal held, Nigeria come from behind against Madagascar

In Patrick Vieira’s first match in charge, Senegal were held to a 1-1 draw by Mozambique. Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, but Geny Catamo equalised in the 45th+2. Patrick Vieira’s choices for this first match against Mozambique were particularly eagerly anticipated.

Nigeria, meanwhile, came from behind to beat Madagascar 2-1. Ehsan Kari stunned the Super Eagles in the 16th minute before George Ilenikhena equalised just before half-time (45th+1). Moses Usor scored the winning goal in the 65th minute.

Mali win, while Egypt and Burkina Faso held

Mali recorded one of the most convincing wins of the evening by beating Cape Verde 3-1. Ange Martial Tia scored in the 5th minute, Sidny Lopes Cabral equalised five minutes later, then Nene Dorgeles scored twice (39th, 51st). Egypt and Angola played out a goalless draw, while Burkina Faso and Benin drew 1-1, with Lassina Traoré and Aiyegun Tosin converting two penalties.
