2027 AFCON qualifiers: all Tuesday’s results and scorers

The second round of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers produced several surprises this Tuesday, with 17 matches played across the continent.

The second round of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers delivered a particularly eventful evening this Tuesday, September 29. Several favourites rose to the occasion, including Morocco, Egypt, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Mali, while Nigeria and Ghana suffered two of the biggest surprises of the day.

Guinea-Bissau notably made a major statement by beating Nigeria 3-0, while Gambia came from two goals down to defeat Ghana 4-2. Egypt, meanwhile, recorded the biggest win of the day with five goals against South Sudan.

Algeria come from behind, Morocco maintain their perfect record

Algeria also endured an eventful match. Two goals down after just 12 minutes away to Burundi, the Fennecs responded through Bachir Belloumi and Adil Boulbina to snatch a 2-2 draw. They now have four points after two rounds.

Morocco, meanwhile, are continuing their perfect run with a second win in as many matches, achieved against Lesotho (2-0). Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Rwanda, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau also followed up with a second victory. These results complete the overview of the first round of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

Several groups already shaken up after two rounds

While no qualification has yet been secured at this stage, the second round is already beginning to reveal several trends. Guinea-Bissau and Gambia confirmed their excellent starts by defeating two heavyweight sides, while Morocco continue to advance without conceding a single goal. Ghana, by contrast, find themselves under pressure after two defeats in two matches.

The qualifiers will continue with the remaining matches of this second round, before the campaign resumes in November for the third and fourth rounds.
